'Schumi told to choose his job'

Thursday 26th November 2009

Mercedes GP have reportedly told Michael Schumacher to 'choose his job' in a bid to entice the German to the team.

The Silver Arrows are making a long-awaited return to Formula One as a fully-fledged constructor next season having purchased a majority stake in the Championship-winning Brawn GP outfit.

With one German already on the payroll in Nico Rosberg, who has been signed as one of their two drivers, rumours claimed Mercedes GP were trying to lure Schumacher into taking the second race-seat.

However, the Daily Mirror now claims that Mercedes want Schumacher in any capacity that they can get him.

'The German car giant is so desperate to persuade the nation's most famous racer to join their new Formula One campaign as a manufacturer they have told him he can have any job in the team even if he does not want to race,' reports the tabloid.

'Mercedes are not only prepared to put him in the seat vacated by Jenson Button's move to McLaren but are open to discussion on a variety of other roles whether in the cockpit, management or as a roving ambassador and advisor.'

Schumacher, though, already has a consultancy job with Ferrari and given the seven-time World Champion's history with the Scuderia, it appears highly unlikely that he would swap to another team for any job other than racing.
