How to add a photo

General

Uploading a photograph to your advert is easy – all you need is a digital photo of your vehicle. Remember to scan your photo at the appropriate size and resolution for publication before submitting.

Click 'Add Photo' on the Preview screen when placing an online advert. How you upload a photo will depend on the browser you're using and its settings.

There are two types of photo upload:

• Photo Control – this allows you to manage your photo locally on your machine. Upload time should be quick
  
  
• Photo Browse - this is done remotely which means upload time could take longer depending on photo size

 Requirements

• Size – at least 640x480 pixels
• Aspect ratio – 4:3
• Resolution – 72dpi
• Format – jpeg (.jpg .jpeg)

You must have at least one main photo, which will appear in your magazine advert.

If your photo is removed Auto Trader can add a suitable alternative. Email it to photos@autotrader.co.uk or post it to Customer Services, Trader Media Group Ltd, Willow House, Woodlands Business Park, Ashton Road, Newton-le-Willows, WA12 0HE. Please include your full name, vehicle registration and customer order number.

Auto Trader reserves the right to remove photos which are unacceptable or inappropriate. The photograph should be a true representation of the advertised vehicle. We cannot accept adverts supplied with stock or library photos, nor can we accept 'cut-outs' or montages.

 Photo Control

Photo control will only work on certain browsers (such as Internet Explorer and Netscape) and requires ActiveX control enabled. Please note ActiveX control is not compatible with Internet Explorer running in Windows Vista, or Firefox.

The control has three sections – editing tools, photo frame and photo bank.

1. Select the photo position you want to load a photo into
2. Click ‘Browse’ to locate the file from your computer
3. Click ‘Upload’. The image will appear in the photo frame
4. If the photo is bigger than the specification a crop mask will appear. The image in the photo bank will change to ‘Pending Save’
5. Move the crop mask over the top-left corner of the photo you wish to upload
6. Drag the bottom right-corner of the photo crop mask to the bottom-right corner of the photo area
7. Crop the image by using the crop link or icon
8. The picture will be redrawn to fit the photo frame
9. Up to nine photos can be uploaded
10. When the photos are saved they’ll appear in the Photo Bank

 Features

Crop - redisplays the cropped area of the photo
Remove - removes the photo from the photo frame
Undo - cancels the last action.

 Buttons

Upload - uploads the photos you’ve loaded
Remove All - removes all photos from the photo frames
Preview - loads the advert preview page.

 Photo Browse

Photo browse has two sections – photo frame and photo bank.

1. Select the photo position from the photo bank to which you want to load a photo into
2. Click the browse button to locate the photo to be uploaded
3. Select the photo to be uploaded
4. Select Upload and the photo will be uploaded
5. Repeat this process to upload up to 9 photos

Please note photo management is carried out remotely, so large photos may take longer to save. To speed this process up, you can resize the photo before uploading.
