1. How do I search for a car?
You can search for a car the way you think about a car. Want to search by make and model? By price? Engine size? Or maybe a combination of whatever you like.
Take a look at the drop-down menus in the search form and search for a car how you want. When you’re happy with what you’re looking for, click ‘Show Results Below’ at the bottom-right of the blue search box and a list of car adverts will appear.
2. How do I search within a price range?
Select a minimum and maximum price from the drop-down menus under ‘Vehicle attributes’ before clicking ‘Show Results Below’. You can search cars from £0 to £1,000,000.
3. How do I search for a car by make and model?
Select a make and model from the drop-down menus under the ‘Make/model’ heading to find the car you want. You can choose a ‘Sub model’ and ‘Edition’ to narrow your search.
For example:
1. Make: Renault
2. Model: Clio
3. Sub model: Hatchback (2005)
4. Edition: 1.2 16V Expression 3dr (5).
Click ‘Show Results Below’.
Please note: The number in brackets after the car's edition is the number of new cars available.
4. Why isn’t a specific car model/sub model/edition appearing in the drop-down menu?
Ensure you’ve selected ‘Make’ before ‘Model’ – this is required for the ‘Model’ field to be populated. The same goes for ‘Sub model’ and ‘Edition’ – make sure you select the top down menu first.
If a make and model you’re looking for isn't appearing, there may not be any adverts currently available for that specific model.
6. Can I sort cars by price?
Yes – after running a search, click the ‘Sort results by’ drop down menu at the top of search results. Sort car prices from low to high or high to low and click ‘Go’.
7. How do I search for a particular car type?
Use the ‘Car Type’ drop-down menu under the ‘Style/feature’ heading to find the right car type for you, and click ‘Show Results Below’.
8. How do I search for cars by engine size?
Click the ‘Engine size’ drop-down menu and select the engine size you want. Click ‘Show Results Below’.
9. How do I search for cars with a specific number of doors?
Use the ‘Number of doors’ drop-down menu to choose cars with 2, 3, 4 or 5 doors. When you’re happy with your choice, click ‘Show Results Below’.
10. How do I search for cars by transmission?
Search for manual or automatic cars with the ‘Any transmission’ drop-down menu before clicking ‘Show Results Below’.
11. How do I search for a car with a specific fuel type?
Pick a fuel from the ‘Fuel type’ drop-down menu under the ‘Vehicle attributes’ heading and click ‘Show Results Below’.
12. How can I search for new cars or pre-registered cars?
Click the ‘New and Pre-registered Cars’ drop-down menu at the top-right, choose the type of car you want to search for and click ‘Show Results Below’.
Please note: Auto Trader’s New Car Search will display both new and pre-registered car adverts by default.
13. What’s the difference between new cars and pre-registered cars?
- New cars are unregistered with no miles on the clock
- Pre-registered cars are registered with delivery miles on the clock (and can only be registered by a dealer for six months)
14. How can I search for nearest adverts or national adverts?
Click the ‘Nearest and national adverts’ drop-down menu at the top-left, select the specific advert type and insert your postcode. Click ‘Show Results Below’.
Please note: Auto Trader’s New Car Search will display both nearest and national adverts by default.
