If you think the car in these pictures looks strangely familiar, you'd be right. The Chevrolet Aveo is the replacement for the Kalos supermini launched in 2005. It is easiest to tell the Chevrolet Aveo from its predecessor at the front, thanks to its bold new face, which is among the first to be inspired by the Chevrolet WTCC Concept seen at motorshows over the last few years.

New Chevrolet Aveo here in January
The latest Chevrolet Aveo supermini will arrive in showrooms in January 2012, costing from £9,995. It goes head-to-head with the Kia Rio and will provide a stylish and affordable alternative to the Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 207, Vauxhall Corsa and Citroen C3.

Distinctive new Chevrolet Aveo revealed
The wraps have been taken off a new Chevrolet Aveo at the Detroit motor show, where the car has been unveiled in saloon and hatchback forms. The car, known as the Sonic in the US, is unlikely to reach the UK in saloon form as the configuration has always sold poorly here. That means we’ll get just the hatchback, in five-door form only.
