excellent value people carrier

VOLKSWAGEN TOURAN 1.9 TDI S 105 5dr (Review date: 24th February '12)

4.3

Having driven several people carriers including Zafira, Picasso, Mazda 5 and Sedona I have to say the Touran is up there with the best. It is certainly the best handling of these vehicles and also the most car-like to drive. The only slight criticism is the ride is slightly harsh, but I prefer that to the wallowing of the French vehicles.

As for practicality, it is perfect for me to transport my wife, son and daughter in law and two grandkids in perfect comfort. In fact, son is 6ft 4ins and was that impressed he has decided to trade in his Vauxhall for a VW if monies allow, another bonus being that the VW keeps a good resale value.Again, the only drawback is that the 2nd row of seats do not fold flat though if needed they are removable, but very heavy, to give a huge loading bay handy for trips to the tip!

The vehicle has been very economical for a 7 seater, averaging about 44mpg overall (according to trip computer) better than expected for amount of work it does. It is also used for my work and as such has had to make it to 175,000 miles in 4 and a half years, no mean feat, with very good reliability whereby apart from regular servicing, it has only suffered 1 major fault, failure of injectors at 155,000.

In summary, very practical, roomy, reliable family car whose only fault is the slightly expensive maintenance costs, but for everyday running (not business) would heartily recommend.

VW Touran

VOLKSWAGEN TOURAN 1.9 TDI PD S 5dr [7 Seat] (Review date: 9th February '12)

This car is a very practical car, it can carry 7 people from point A to point B without a problem. If there is any thing big that you need to move for example a fridge or a washing machine the touran will deal with that easily. The Germans made this car very well as it doesn't need to visit the mechanics often and when it does, it only for the mot. The fuel consumption is great in the touran because it avrages around 60 mpg, the insurance could be a bit cheaper though. The quality of the ride is aslo very smooth because when there is a hole in the road the touran basically glides over it. I am very happy with this car!

Bought a 2.0tdi touran se from the local vw dealer because the condition was so good. (seemed to be wearing a lot better than ford or vauxhall offerings) .Paid top dealer price but it came with f.s.h,and a years warranty thank goodness. Within the first 6 months the infamous esp warning light appeared so new abs sensor needed, a new rear door lock fitted 2, window regulators failed and new headlight needed. Apart from that its been a pleasure to own. It feels robust, spacious, returns 50mpg on a run and has bags of torgue.

Better with every model change

VOLKSWAGEN TOURAN 1.9 TDI S 105 5dr (Review date: 19th January '12)

This is the second one i've owned in 6 years, both on a contract,

72mpg (photo to prove it and informed VW) .

6 speed box is easy and smooth during gear changes

Brakes are really sharp when needed

It doesn't use much oil (only 1ltr in 3 years)

Tyres do wear out quicker than my last one which was petrol

I would quite happily have another one if the chance arose

The only problem with Touran is the ABS sensor,ESP and AirBag sensor

The only problem with Touran is the ABS sensor,ESP and AirBag sensor they cost a lot of money to fix i paid 750 pouds to get it done and I think VW should do a recall on all Tourans from year 03 to 06

I bought it to use as taxi with 89k on the clock, now using it in Germany travelling to Slovenia, Austria, back and forth over to England.

Now reads 233k and due for new cam belt. So reliable that any cost for parts are soon soaked up especially if genuine only parts used. Still on 2nd set of brake pads. Been so versatile. If she gives up now, I say "Good on er".

Monster Load carrier work horse

VOLKSWAGEN TOURAN 1.9 TDI S 90 5dr (Review date: 15th November '11)

90HP super star - 6 speed, loads of torque, swallows 4 adults and luggage for 2 weeks, 50mpg average, really solid, very reliable, only a couple of minor faults (not VW fault but accident repair). Children to university - swallows load and seat configuration means any size or shape goes in. Seats 7, easy to switch between 5 and 7 - must be aware that rear tyre pressures are quite importnat with load / or 7 but inflator comes as standard. Great car. Highly recommended. Purrs on M/way for hours without skipping a beat and still got power left.
