I needed a big roomy estate car that was good for pounding up and down the motorways on long journeys. The Passat does just that - plenty of room for all my work samples, very, very comfortable sports seats and powerful diesel engine devours the miles with ease.
The long life servicing is great - only the odd top up of oil requried inbetween services of about 18 - 20,000 miles. The car is fast, smooth, easy and effortless to drive and very quiet.
The various gadgets are very useful - cruise expecially and the heated seats a life saver.
I'm only moving my Passat on after 3 1/2 years (I usually only keep my cars for a max of 3) because I now need something a bit smaller.
I will miss this car - its been a pleasure to drive.

This is a lovely car it is very economical for it's size and performance.
If you want a bit of speed and responsiveness you can put it into sport mode.
Loads of space if you have kids.
Very smooth ride, good sterio and lots of cup holders thank goodness!!!!
It's a good looking big car that's cheap to run and is great value for money compared to A4's and 3 series.

Absolutely awesome car
VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT 3.6 V6 R36 4MOTION 5dr DSG (Review date: 2nd May '11)

This is probably one of the best cars ive owned. It fitted my purpose perfectly in having a happy medium between a practical family car and a sporty 'drivers car'.
The performance and handling were just unbeleivably good and it always was a treat to drive. it would fit the family and lugguage in but 3 adults across the back was a bit of a squash. the 4 motion system was great in the snow but running costs are fairly steep with 23 mpg round town.
altogether a great car and was a pity to sell

Brought this car a month ago and been very impressed so far. It replaces a Monaro V8 and I was a bit reluctant to change but nagging from wife to take grandchildren out got to much!!
Spoke to a mate at work who had one and he raved about them so I gave it a try.
On first impressions the power was very good compared to a lot of diesel cars I tried and that's changing from a 335BHP+ car
The ride is firm but comfortable and the steering is very direct and precise which is a good plus.Economy is excellent for a 2.0 TDI as I average 48 on mixed driving and 53+ on a long run with the cruise control on which by any standards is good for an estate of this size, and if I was to drive it to it's full potential I think you could get it to near on 60mpg. Around town it's high 30s- low40s so I'm not complaining at that.
With tax at £175 pa and insurance under £250 it's a cheap car to run all round and the room inside is excellent as you can Easley take 4 adults and golf gear for the weekend and at a push you would fit 5 and that's without a top box.
All round it's a good workhorse that's comfortable and economical that I would recommend to anybody.

this is a great family car period! the car has never let me down in terms of its reliability and it's a really stylish looking.
it's great for long and short journey's, plenty of space for all kinds of stuff. it has the largest boot i've ever had and i have had a few estate cars in the past.
it will be a shame to sell it but needs must, who ever buys this car will be very happy with there purchase..

I've had this car now for 2 years, and it's been completely reliable - I've never needed to take it to a garage. It's a comfortable, practical estate car; I've moved sofas, wardrobes, beds, huge speakers for a hi-fi system, and more. We go camping regularly, and have a huge amount of gear, which the Passat swallows comfortably with the aid of a roof box. The performance is excellent, even when fully loaded. There are larger estates around, but I've not needed one so far.
For everyday driving, the car is comfortable, very quiet at motorway speeds, and the ride/ handling combination is good. I play sport in various locations in the UK, occasionally staying away for a weekend with some team-mates. The Passat comfortably holds the sports gear and luggage of myself, my partner and 2 or 3 team-mates. It always provides a relaxed, comfortable environment. I soon got used to the handbrake (or lack of one!), and find it easier to drive because of it. My partner sometimes has to remind me to release the hand-brake when I'm driving her car!
The car creates a good impression with clients; it creates a successful image without being too ostentatious.
The only slight downsides; I only get about 45 mpg over long-distances, less around town. I would expect a little more. (Although I suppose the roof box and weight don't help on the camping trips.) And the black colour looks great when newly washed, but soon shows the dirt. Maybe I should've chosen silver! The dash looks a little plasticky (not sure how to spell that - is it a real word?). I'd prefer the softer feel and look of the dash in the Skoda Octavia I used to have. I was also surprised it didn't come with cruise control as standard.
