Pricey but good fun
VAUXHALL MONTEREY 3.2i V6 LTD 5dr Auto (Review date: 17th January '12)
The Vauxhall Monterey is a good rugged car for anyone wanting a 4x4. Stacks of carrying capacity and easy access with side opening full width doors at the rear.
Front passenger and driver need to be reasonably fit to get in / out of the car as it is quite high. Access could be made easier by fitting grab handles each side to help getting in or out. Without these, it is not the best car for taking your granny out in. Seats are all fitted with armrests and are extremely comfortable for both long and short journeys. Drivers seat has height adjustment.
Plenty of usable equipment fitted, all within reasonably easy reach.
Repairs can be expensive but seem to be rarely needed. Biggest downside is fuel consumption. Averaging 17 mpg around town is not great with todays fuel costs. Having said that the car, at 3.2 litres, is extremely powerful for one so big and heavy. Excellent speed pick up on kick down, and the 4wheel drive is amazing on snow / ice / rough terrain.
If only it were cheaper on petrol it would be an A1 car.
A True Great of the 4 x 4 world!

Quite honestly the best vehicle I have ever owned! Doesn't complain, can take the tough knocks of what it was built for unlike some of the modern wannabe 4x4 and will always get you where you need to go regardless of the terrain!
We camp a lot and the monterey is perfect as with such a huge boot space we can just throw in all the gear on a friday night and take off wherever we want to go without having to spend hours deliberating what we can and can't take or will need due to space. Also ideal for days out with friends as the 7 seater option gives the option to save on additional cars making the same journey and the engine doesn't notice the difference of the extra weight.
There really is a great sense of security and safety in the front as the elevated driving position gives you a great view of the road and the robust build of the bodywork makes you feel like you would be safe even if the worst were to happen.
I have driven mine everywhere through snow, sand and mud and never been let down even in a blizzard with all spotlights blazing and the full 4 wheel system engaged!
All in all a once in a lifetime car that is loads of fun to make memories in!

A great 4x4,a true saviour in the snow, ice and mud,and as we live off the beaten track, our only link to the outside world.
It looks boxy and basic however it compensates for this by being able to go anywhere at anytime. Its always started first time, and we did suffer with 8ft snow drifts in the cheviot hills. We need daily visits by macmillan nurses to administer drugs for my wife, the snow was so bad, they couldnt get up to us,not even the doctor in his land rover could manage, the nearest tractor couldnt manage the drifts, ice underneath or the incline, the monterey breezed it,daily picking up the nurses from the main road and returning them safely later.
This car is indeed a lifesaver, its also so high up we look down on range rovers....and over hedges.well under rated,it is after all,an isuzu trooper behind the monterey badge.
Its a wolf in wolfs clothing if you know what I mean.

This is a great vehicle with a powerfull 3.1 turbo diesel engine that will take you and your family anywhere .With loads of extra boot space for your dogs , shopping E.T.C . It is easy to maintain and for the size of the vehicle not to bad on fuel . The 4 wheel drive makes it good in bad weather ie snow , ice and mud on caravan sites E.T.C . I use this vehicle for social domestic and pleasure and it never misses a beat in all weathers .
