NOT A SLEAK AS IT'S MADE OUT TO BE
VAUXHALL ASTRA 2.0T 16V VXR 3dr (Review date: 2nd April '12)

I was wanting a hot hatch that would be great fun to drive but at the same time something that was cheap reliabialble and pratical. I most certianly made the wrong desion and am now deeply regreting buying the VXR as the proformance has been very disspointing when I was totally thrashed from stand still by one of the new Golf R's. At the time when I was buying the car I was strugling to understand why the Golf R was a couple of grand more. It has become very clear to me now and I'm wishing that I had gone for the Golf R. When the finaces let me I think this will be happening.
Just check the car out in detail before you buy. You might think differently then.

i bought this 05 plate 150 astra 3 door diesel 3 years ago with 50k on the clock, an ex company car it now has 72k, in that time ive replaced f/r discs/pads and the common egr valve. ive read the negative reports on the car and supprise supprise there all from people who bought the petrol version, my car was bumped at asda (suprised?) they gave me a sxi 1.6 petrol as a cortesy car. jeezzzz i can see why you petrol owners slate the astra! the engine yes but not the car, yes its dire in the snow i agree, this is from a bloke whos bought german for the past 10 years. i love this car and recommend a series h DIESEL astra to anyone, oh tho i have snapped 3 sets of springs with the sport button active, my advice? turn it off before hitting those speed bumps! and for the boy raceers amongst you, forget the golf or 3 series, pound for pound these 150"s are the best buy around, as for faults? there faultless.

I'm not over the moon with it. It looks good and it drives well in the dry. But I've only had it 10 months, it had it's 2nd MOT and failed on the steering rack which cost me over £400 to fix. Now it has broken again, something to do with emissions. Suspect the lambda sensor??
This car drives well in dry conditions but when the road is even slightly damp it's a nightmare. When you try and stop it just locks up, the back end is lively on roundabouts and bends and it just can't handle in wet weather. If I'd driven it in the wet I don't think I would have bought it. Shame really as I think it looks really nice.

Spacious in the front, however I am tall so not alot of room for passengers behind me.
Boot is very spacious.
Rear view is limited.
Interior is simplistic, some nice gadgets however and also half leather seats are comfortable.
Engine turbo is niiiiiiice i got some points because of it lol.
Stylish look attracts women!
All around nice car would recommend.

Well what can I say I brought this car brand new as it had the looks it had the 1.6 16v ecotec engine which produced 115bhp at first the car was lovely to drive smooth on the road in fact a real head turner, but it lacked the power, plus cornering was difficult in this car it when accelerating out of a bend the car would want to pull you to the verge heance why I have put all show no go, the fuel consumption when dricing sensibly is 31.6mpg when in fact it is suposed to do 40mpg but all in all not bad vauxhal not bad at all. Looking forward to the astra vxr this year.

2007 1.7CDTi 3 door Astra Design.. Great!

Pros:
Good looking car, better than 5 door version.
Reliable - Car has done over 71,000 miles & no problems... just usual wear & tear items like tyres, wipers & changed cambelt.
Accelerates well even though only 100 BHP
For one or two people car is ideal. Plenty of space when rear seats folded down.
Cons:
Shocking in snow... does not grip well at all, especially around roundabouts
Could have more storage & gadgets. No trip computer, cruise control or ipod aux socket.
Small rear window, vsibility not good.. but you soon get used to it.
All in all a nice looking, reliable & decent car. Recommened

pulls like a train and corners as if it is on rails. As it is auto it only manages 45mpg,it could do more but there is always temptation to put your foot down with it having a 6 speed box.On motorways the car comes into its own as you have to do 70mph before it goes into top gear. The engine is a bit noisy at low speed, but it is made by Fiat and fitted by a whole range of car makers. The car is just over 3 years old and has done 87000miles and shows no sign of being tired.Inside is well spec"d and feels solid. In the 3 door form they are a good buy second hand and should always be easy to sell later as they are quite an eye-catching shape

Only had it 3 weeks but love it so far! It's the 3 door sport hatch which looks just great, especially now I have the rear windows tinted. I am the 2nd owner and bought it with 75k on the clock but I can honestly say it is a great drive - nice and smooth and so quiet. It handles well and the seats are comfy although a height adjuster for the passenger seat would be useful.Great for my 18 mile commute to work each day and I am getting about 45mpg just driving normally. The only niggle I did have was a crunch engaging reverse when cold but have now sorted that with a change of technique - drop the clutch, count to 3 and then engage reverse = no more crunch!

Vauxhall Astra SXI is a class topper
VAUXHALL ASTRA 1.6i 16V SXi [115] 3dr (Review date: 27th January '12)

the vuaxhall astra is a well built and very practical car. Even though it has the coupe style body it offers a great amount of rear leg and head room so the car can easily carry 5 adults comfortably. along with the sleek design and spacious interior the Astra also has a very large boot space making it a great all round car for everyday use. the amount of kit you get with the car is also very impressive with air conditioning electric windows and mirrors, trip computer and aux port all as standard. the car suits the needs of most people as it offers great fuel economy as i am currently getting an average of 41 MPG and this includes travelling 15 miles to and from work everyday and also quite alot of in town driving. tax is also resonably low at £165 per year and the car is also very cheap to insure. The car is also very sporty. 0-60 time is taking around 10-11 secondand the steering of the car is very good due to the low ride height and it is great fun on country roads as you get a great feel from the wheel. overall the car is fantastic and honestly one of the best i have ever driven, and i work in the motor trade so have tested alot of cars in the past. I am very happy with my decision to get the car as like i said it ticks all of the boxes for me as it is sporty to look at and it is an excellent drive but it also offers great practicality with good fuel economy and interior and boot space. Overall i give the car 4.5 out of 5 stars as it is a class topper and certainly a car i will not be getting rid of any time soon.
