Cheap 4x4

NISSAN TERRANO 2.7 TDi SE 3dr (Review date: 15th February '14)

4.5

I was after a 4x4 to use during the winter months as my Mercedes CLK was practically unusable in the snow and ice we seem to get now. I owned a couple of Terrano LWB models many years ago so had some experience with them. This time I was after a 2000 model year SWB model with low millage and, looking through the Autotrader turned up a 2000 (W) ex Coastguard 2.7TD SWB car with just 28,000 on the clock with FDSH, tow bar and roof rails...perfect.

I have had this car 2 years now and it has pretty well become my everyday car, the Merc only comes out on a Sunday now.

The Terrano has performed faultlessly, starts first time every time, I get about 30-35 mpg and only pay £270 for road tax.

Its not a quick car but does handle pretty well for a tall offroader, has plenty of room in the back and has proved perfect for getting me to various mountain bike trails in and around Wales.

I'm looking to trade it in soon for something a little bigger and have been looking at a Discovery 3, trouble is they don't look to be as reliable as my Terrano.

I would deff recommend the Terrano to anybody looking for a cheap, capable and reliable 4x4, the SWB model is easy to drive and park and has plenty of usable space in the boot. They are fantastic in the snow and ice and can tow anything with ease.

Overall a fantastic car

I bought this Terrano about 3 years ago now, Having owned 4x4s before # ## found these to be more then capable in the bad snowy winters we have been having of late they really do leave other 4x4s in there wake one job I have done is to fit manual free wheeling hubs on the front this helps with MPG, I get around 35mpg urban better on motorways 40+ not bad for a 14 year old 2.7 jeep and they will tow just about anything you care to stick on the back, Mine is the 7seater model very handy But if your not using it can be removed in 5mins then you have a huge boot space

NISSAN TERRANO 2.4i X-treme 3dr (Review date: 23rd July '13)

4.3

Good solid workhorse. Only paid £700 for her. It's been used to move paving slabs garden rubble large amounts . Excellent towing capacity. Fantastic off road lots of fun never gets stuck, good ground clearance, has mud/snow tyres fitted so road noise is a bit annoying but drives really well. Exterior plastics have discoloured but think this is common. Very tough truck. Love it.

Great machine. Never let me down. One thing which I ve replaced was front hubs from automatics on manuals. Im using my Terrano for towing over 1 tonne heavy tank of water. Great gears reductor. Very good workhorse. Why I love it?

-really good workhorse

-was cheap to buy (600£ `98)

-good for heavy terrain (with proper tyres obviously)

-gives a lot of pleasure from driving. its a bit more than a normal car

-universal purposes, work on my countryside

Only one bad - fuel consuption, but this is 2-tonne heavy car with only 118hp engine.

Need a good workhorse/towcar?

NISSAN TERRANO 2.7 TDi SR 3dr (Review date: 19th January '12)

Ive owned my Teranno for approx 4 years now,it is my first Nissan purchase,my car had been written off and I was starting a new job in a weeks time.It was a bit of a rushed purchase, but I have no regrets. Its been a good, reliable vehicle.Ive put the odd tyre on it and a battery and brake pads. Its not the best on fuel consumption, but I dont do massive miles. Its a 3 door, basic vehicle, but very sturdy and has only let me down once....battery failed...Im looking for a newer one, with 5 doors and A/con...just to add,I like being in the elevated position this car provides,I feel very safe.It drives and handles well and will cruise nicely at 70mph,with surprisingly little wind noise.Mpg is about early 30s to the gallon....not bad for a 2.7 litre turbo diesel.

Owned a Ford Maverick commercial van for work for last 6 years which is the same as Nissan Terrano, fantastic vehicle would go anywhere in it. Fantastic engines, same as they use in london black cabs , so capable of really high mileage.. Have a 2003 7seater Terrano now, and absolutely love it, the height, reliability, more toys, looks good, decent off road, practicality with family and dog,bit thirsty but it is a 4x4. If you want a 4x4 get one, much better than totally unreliable Land rovers, believe me i know from experience....

fantastic 4x4 brought it with only 93.000 klms on the clock and because its the inport it comes with all the bells and whistles starts first time every time no proplem getting parts tows our caravan with ease there a bit noisey when cold but when warmed up go nice and quiet the 4x4 by far puts all the others to shame and leaves them in a cloud of dust

03 Terrano 2.7TD

NISSAN TERRANO 2.7 TDi S 5dr (Review date: 21st May '11)

What a brilliant vehicle! Ive owned lots of cars (100+) and this Terrano has been one of the suprises. Very stable to drive without the wallowing of a Jeep or Discovery (owned both) very good performance for a 4wd. It will do 100+mph and genuine 30 mpg (not at the same time). Engine sounds a 'little' agricultral but quite acceptable.

An all round suprise! comfortable, easy to drive and suprisingly agile, also has a fantastic lock.

Would definatly buy another if I need to tow.
