MERCEDES-BENZ M CLASS ML350 5dr Tip Auto (Review date: 13th November '13)
First Mercedes I have owned and what a machine. I call it the "Beast"
Reliability you cannot fault, starts first turn every time. Maintenance costs are nearly the same as my wife's Grand Vitara. Since owning this car the only fault I have had was a blown number plate bulb.
Comfort, it's like sitting in your favorite armchair, brilliant for long journeys. I use it every day for work and long journeys up North.
It has every conceivable extra, apart from Sat Nav, which you can have fitted.
Probably the only downside in this ever increasing economy, is the fuel consumption. Since owning the car I kept my fuel receipts (sad I know) Recently, I worked out how much to the gallon I have got from the miles I have recorded and have got a remarkable 28 mpg combined running, now that aint bad for a 3742 cc V6 engine, bearing in mind that the majority of my miles are around town.
The power is always there under foot, especially on motorways when you use the kickdown for overtaking.
The car also performs very well in the snow, probably due to the weight and the permanent 4 wheel drive.
The low range gearbox was particularly good when we had to drive through deep water, although it does change the handling/breaking and also seems to over rev the engine.
The engine is really smooth and extremely quiet, I honestly cannot hear the engine idling, when you accelerate hard you can hear the grunt as the engine winds up, but using the cruise control on long journeys keeps the noise at a low level making it superb for long hauls.
There is enough space with the seats dropped, to carry an almost 6ft long table in the back, which I have done.
Yes I would recommend this 4x4 to anyone, best 4x4 I have owned so far and I have had 6 so far.

I first bought my ML from a main dealer at Tombridge four and a half years ago shortly after the purchase I had some issues with the power steering, air conditioning and some other small issues. This was addressed straight away and I was loaned various cars and the service I got was impeccable. I approximately drive 12,000 miles a year. After owning my ML 6 months or so a friend of mine recommended getting my ML remapped at AMD Lakeside ... Well what can I say. If you currently drive an ML you would notice that the accelerator pedal feels sticky underfoot. After the remap this has gone and feels very responsive. On the rolling road my Ml produced 159 bhp stock and then was increased to 211 bhp and gave me an additional 110lbft of torque. this changed the ML's engine character which seemed a bit labour-some into a very capable all round performance package. You get lots a lot more bottom-end torque and a hard hitting mid-range punch. I believe I save at least £10-12 on fuel on each tank fill because I am getting more power at lower RPM. It is fun to drive and you can embarrass other cars at traffic light starts. I found over the years that my Ml has been fantastic in adverse weather conditions. It is comfortable, roomy and has great visibility. I know it is a bit old school compared to the new ML but it can really hold its own off-road. My ML has been very reliable except for when I first received the car but these problems were sorted immediately as I have previously mentioned. If you are worried about having your car remapped and are concerned about the MOT. You hardly get any engine smoke because the engine burns fuel cleaner. I do now get my ML serviced at a Mercedes specialist only because there labour rate is lower. I hope you find this useful and I hope this persuades you to buy this and remap it as it is a great bit of kit when you do. Get it done professionally!! I would recommend AMD Lakeside or DMS Southampton.
"BEST CAR ON THE ROAD", The Mercedes ML (Mercedes Luxury)
MERCEDES-BENZ M CLASS ML270 CDI 5dr Tip Auto (Review date: 21st June '13)
Recently purchased a 2003, ML 270 cdi, we took it to a Mercedes specialist, for a full and total service including new discs and pads both back and front, all the filters and oil, the bill came to £ 700, (about the same as the average family car) the Main Merc dealer quoted me £ 1450. We then had it remapped (not chipped) up to 200bhp and the torque increased up to 480Nm.
Now pulling our 4 berth is a dream, just did a mpg check towing the caravan and it came out at 27 mpg, we are more than happy with that, I would think that 38/42 mpg solo would be easily obtainable, keep the revs down to under 2000 at all times will save your pocket a fortune on fuel, tyres and brakes. Insurance fully comp with LV was £ 230.
This has to be the best car that we have ever, ever owned, it has safety, superb build quality, great presence on the road, and comfort and room in spades, the driving position is like sitting in an armchair and with the cruise control on this has to be the easiest and most relaxing vehicle you will ever own.
Whether you are going shopping, on a long trip or just off to the pub, this car will bring a smile to your face every time you get into it.
If you want 60 mpg get a Mini, if you want to feel cramped on your journey, get a Mini, feel vulnerable in the event of a crash, yeh, get a Mini, don't want any of the above then get a Mercedes ML, you will not regret it.
Had the BMW's, Audi's, also the E Class Merc, all the Fords, Vauxhalls and Peugeots, none of them come close to this car, cannot recommend it highly enough, those that complain of high fuel costs should remove the lead boot on their right foot that they are wearing. It does not matter what you drive there is always the great equalizer, THE TRAFFIC LIGHTS, so why race to them ??????
Bought for comfort and ease of driving

Had my Mercedes ML 270 cdi for about 6 months now ,its a 2003 and had 73000 mls on the clock.Service history was iffy with no records for last 4 years .Took it to the garage i use for check over and service was told most service part ,filters looked quite new but had them along with the oil changed. It needed rear pads for MOT and past with flying colours. In use every day and twice a month do a 250 mile round trip ,returns 30+ mpg on runs and about 23 around town.I certainly found the comfort i was looking for,not unlike sitting in your favourite armchair ,and being auto so easy to drive.Brakes are good although a little noisy,a little wallowy on rough roads at speed .Apart from that cant fault the car ,wish i could afford a newer one ,bet they are great.

MERCEDES-BENZ M CLASS ML270 CDI 5dr (Review date: 25th November '12)
I bought this car last year (Jan 2012) from a local dealer. My reasons to buy were:
1-safety.. This car is well equipped with airbags, and very well made steel frame.
2-Ability.. This car can handle snow, floods, ice, hills with ease and limited driver experience makes it easy for a beginner to handle.
3-Quality.. The car speaks for itself and mercedes have a winner here.!
4-Space.. Alot of room for carriage of people/goods.
The car has excellent handling, and visibility for the driver also very good. The brakes are very efficient.
With the cruise control.. you cannot easily gauge the pedal to where the limit should be and not sure whether this may affect fuel consumption even more.??
The downsides are the fuel consumption (28mpg??), although it must be said that for a car that is this heavy and powerful the fuel is expected to be used in this way. If you compare it with Land Rover/Range rovers then you'll see that the Rovers are worse for fuel economy. Merc's are more efficient..
Great family car, but watch out for the long journeys when it comes to budgeting for the fuel.!!
Have a good mehcanic who knows these cars well and service at winter and summer especially!!
Luxury 4x4 at a great price.

Bought my 2001 ML 270CDI in Aug 2011,it had 140k miles & had not been very well looked after by the previous owner but I saw the potential to sort her out.
Had my local Independant Garage look her over & sort out the minor problems, nothing major she now looks & runs beautifully.
Fantastic ride great in all weathers fully loaded with sat nav, leather, heated seats etc now driving a car that would have been 50k but cost me 3.5k.
If you are thinking of buying an older ML with high miles then dont have it serviced by Mercedes they will charge you the earth, use an trusted Independant Garage.
People who buy older Merc's dont tend to look after them so buyer beware, check the bills/maintance costs the owner has spent looking after the car,if they dont have any & you don't want to be hit in your pocket then walk away or dig deep into your Bank balance. High miles on a Merc are not a problem they are built to last.

Excellant 4x4 does every thing you want it too.
Reliability wise very good, make sure you keep yor service up to date, it will run and run. Service cost, at a good independant for a B service £275 and A service £185 not bad eh.
Fuel cost a bit high. though on long run only the other week I was getting 31mpg at 60 to 70 mph.Round town 22mpg but when you think its a 3.7 V6 what do you expect.
Off road cant fault it.
inside it is well set out and the seats are so comfy, plenty of room in the rear for the kids or an adult. In the boot its hugh Fits all our camping gear in and more.
Top car would recomend to any one.
Great Family Car

Have owned a ML350 for a while and I have to say its a great car. Never had a days problem with it. The 3.7 V6 is bullet proof and will continue for many mile as long as you keep them serviced at correct time. My one has the family pack so seven seats. So I'm not sure why people would purchase a discovery when you have the same number of seats in the ML.
