Frugal on fuel. Great on Long Runs

I've owned several Mazdas before including a great MX5. This mazda 6 is so good on mpg - over a recent trip to Inverness and back, some 1,400 miles, we averaged 60.1 mpg! This is especially good bearing in mind that it is a comparatively large and spacious car. It does remind me of driving the MX5 rather than a large hatch!

Over looked family car

Bought this car with only 9000 miles on it and approx 4 months old. It now has 64000 miles to its name and is still earning its living well. I've kept up with genuine Mazda servicing thats about £240 each year, so not too bad. Car tax is cheap and insurance is a reasonable £210 fully comp. I use the car for work, pleasure and now towing my caravan. The sports version has a good solid but comfortable ride and it hold the road really good. Ive had a few problems, mainly the turbo blowing up after 20,000 miles that was done under warranty, but watch and be careful with Mazda's customer service as they will not budge on anything. The DPF warning light is also a pain if you dont keep up with regular servicing. If your buying second hand make sure the air sensors on the alloy whells are in good condition as the perish within 2 years and at £100 per corner they are not cheap (+ now MOT failure if not working). I've had mine re-mapped now and taken the standard 143BHP to 171BHP mainly for towing. Consumption is still around 38mpg round town and on a run I'm getting about 45-48 on a run. Would I buy another-yep without question. I think its the best looking family car on the road and if often over looked. Go try one and I'm sure you'll agree.

Bought mazda 6 sport 20tdi in october2011, Travelled from rep of ireland to uk to purchase my car and wasnt disapointed. It has every extra you need, it has the same spec as the 2.5 petrol model with diesel running costs ,i had an audi a6 1.9tdi before this mazda and had to replace a lot of window regulators , air con went and other bits n pieces, if your over six foot the mazda has plenty of leg room for taller motorists. The hatchback version has a huge boot and all round very versatile space, would recommend a test drive, very smooth with plenty of torque and great on long trips.

Practical, but low on refinement

I have had two Passats before buying this, and I have to say this TS2 diesel (130bhp) a come down in terms of driving pleasure, refinement, and comfort.
The gear box is notchy and there is a lot more road noise than I am used to over any road surface that is not completely smooth. I was seduced by the equipment level, but now having had the car for a year that in no way makes up for the lack of driving pleasure.
The car is a good size, with a large boot and easy to put down rear seats - ideal for my bike which I carry regularly.
Fuel consumption on a long run is around 50mpg, and around 45 at other times so it is not expensive to run, although doing 20k miles a year I miss the Passat's 20k service intervals.A couple of electrical things have been fixed under the dealer warranty - electric mirrors and electric boot opening.
Sadly, for all it's practicality I would not consider buying another Mazda due to the complete lack of pleasure I get in driving or owning it.

This is the eighth Mazda I have owned . This Sport model I have had for 3 years covering 30,000 miles . I have replaced 2 front tyres and one rear light bulb My only criticism is the petrol consumption 30 mpg average but it is a 2.5 litre car. I have the opportunity to drive Jags Land Rovers and Volvos . I get back in my Mazda and think " This is a fun car at half the cost .

I have owned this car from new March 2010 it is a very smooth comfortable running car Plenty of space inside and lots of room in the boot ideal family car. Only complaint is the paint work in all the years I have driven (40 years) I have never had a car that has had as much stone damage chips to the front and sides. Mazda do have chip repair kits but they make a bigger mess of the car and it looks like I will have to get the front of the car re-painted bad for a 1 year old car.

Boot space sells it. It has enough to carry a double buggy three suitcases and a picnic basket. The engine is refined and at idle you could mistake it for being off. No costly repair bills as nothing ever goes wrong as long as you service it - or not. Missed two services and still going strong. Mazda were built to last and run in all weather. Only downside is it leaks water around the rubber edges on the window/doors - not much but enough to cause condensation inside the car.
