Great Car, engine seriously flawed

AUDI A5 2.0T FSI SE 5dr (Review date: 26th September '12)

4

The A5 sportback is a great car, I used to drive a regular A5, but with a growing family I needed the extra space. The car is perfect for long hauls, is very practical while still retaining the A5 looks.

But, and this is a big but, the oil consumption is crazy. This car actually comes with a spare lite of oil when new, and you soon find out why. It needs a litre every 1200 to 1500 miles! Audi say unless it drinks more than 1 litre every 1000 miles it is within tolerance. Check out the web forums for this engine and you will see it is a common problem. We have two other vehicles at work with the same engine, both have this excessive oil consumption problem. For this reason, I can only recommend this car as a company car (when someone else pays for the oil), not a private purchase.

Audi A5 Sportback S-line, efficient, powerful and confident

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI S Line 5dr (Review date: 18th September '11)

I have owned this car for 18 months now, it has been the best car I have owned to date. Audi have created a car that offers a smooth and powerful engine combined with efficiency and practicability. In addition the build quality compared to other manufacturers seems to be superior. I have had all of the comparible models such as BMW, Mercs etc and Audi have a much better build quality. Everything is smooth and there is no tiny rattles or noises. This car gives you the looks of the A5 plus the benefit of a hatchback and this makes things a lot easier when going on longer journeys as you can get a lot of gear in the boot. The extras on the car are well though out including an SD card slot and IPOD dock. The handbrake is a little switch near the gear stick which is easy to use.

Superb car with great style

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI 5dr (Review date: 16th June '11)

4.8

This car is a pleasure to drive. I even look forward to the mundane commute across the city. The car is comfortable, smooth and fast enough.

Reliability is second to none, and fuel economy sticks at 47mpg overall.

It's a good load carrier, having moved my daughter from home to uni on a number of occasions, amazed at the capacity, which from someone who previously owned a Volvo estate is high praise.

Finally if you like to "fa la bella figura", as the italians say it's the car for you, always gets admiring glances.

Drives Like A Dream!

AUDI A5 2.0T FSI Quattro SE 5dr S Tronic (Review date: 7th June '11)

4.8

Really wonderful car - drives well on long distances and school runs. Has 2 back doors. Only downside is that it has 2 seat belts in the back. Will be sad to see it go but need 3 back seat belts. I love the auto lights for when it's dark and the auto wipers when it's spitting. Running costs are low as still like new but with a high performance car the running costs are as you expect. It's only had the Audi garage as an owner and one non-smoker lady driver so still very good condition.

Superb car - now onto second one!!!!!!!!!!!!

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI 5dr (Review date: 29th March '11)

Moved from a Mondeo ST to a car that caught my eye in showroom whilst considering the A4. Bought October 09 and did 51000 in 15 months. The car was a pleasure to drive, look at and also proved very economical. As it was the showroom SE model it came like a christmas tree full of add ons. The inside was just like a cockpit of an airline as someone else described but very user friendly compared to the BMW I loaned whilst wifes car was in garage. It draws a lot of interest owing to the sporty shape and provides an excellent ride. Just traded it in for an S-line quattro as there was nothing to compare. Only down side was I hoped to get an ex-demonstrator but there was very few to consider and none had a spec to match my previous vehicle. Service costs were excellent and Audi back up good too. Had to call roadside assistance once when I couldnt get wheel off with a puncture. RAC man told me it was a common problem with new Audis - the hubs werent greased on manufacture. Cant fault any area and would advise test drive.

Amazing car and incredibly spacious!!!

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI 5dr (Review date: 10th March '11)

This is by far the best car I have ever owned. It is a joy to drive. It is beautiful to look at, incredibly comfortable, reliable and it is very spacious. It is very economical, nearly 650 miles to the tank. I am gutted that I need to sell, but for certain reasons I need to get an automatic.

A5 Sportback 2.0TDI S Line

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI S Line 5dr (Review date: 26th February '11)

4.3

Fantastic looking car especially sitting on 19's, which feels pretty special on the inside. Eats up motorway miles and likes a corner too.

The hatch is the real selling point for me, I would never have bought an A4 saloon, but this car allowed me to ditch our old Avant and slide into a coupe which fits in all you need for 2 weeks in with the family in France and luxuriously too.

Downsides, the cost of the tires, does a 170PS TDI need 255's all round? Plus if you are even remotely heavy with your right foot, the claimed 54mpg combined, is nothing more than a dream.

Audi A5 Sportback 2.0 TDI

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI 5dr (Review date: 23rd January '11)

4.5

I have had this car for 8 months and I can honestly say it is the best car I have ever owned, which for someone who has been driving for 35 years is quite an accolade..

It is a company car so I use it mostly for business, predominantly motorway driving.

I has great acceleration, when needed, yet when driven at about 70 mph on the motorway it will give 56 mpg.

On the motorway the car is incredibly quiet with very little engine or road noise.

The seats are comfortable on long journeys so you don't have to keep stopping to stretch your legs.

On A and B roads it is fun to drive.

For a coupe it has a remarkable amount of useable boot space.

Last year we drive from Roscoff to the South of France with 4 people and holiday luggage in the car and it was enjoyable to drive from start to finish.

The only down sides I have noticed are:-

1) The car can only carry 4 people as there are only 4 seat belts, this seems crazy as the back seat will easily take 3 people.

2) The car is rather low to the ground (Not surprising as it's a coupe) and my wife who has a bad hip has difficulty getting in and out.

Audi A5 Sportsback - 5 doors are better than 2

AUDI A5 2.0 TDI S Line 5dr (Review date: 13th January '11)

4.3

Got the car in April 2010 as a company car so far have driven 22k miles in 8 months, trouble free motoring so far, journeys have been a proper test of short, medium and long journeys, work and domestic, including a camping holiday. Beautiful looking car, and not that many on the road, more stylish and more practical than the coupe. I opted for the BBS 19inch alloys and lowered sports suspension, which makes the car look even better. Only a 4 seater but how often do you carry 4 passengers? Plenty of legroom and comfort all round especially for rear passengers. Cabin interior is typical Audi quality, great attention to detail and a feeling that everything will stand the test of time and use. Illumnated display and switchgear make it feel like a cockpit. Fantastic boot, spacious with detachable parcel shelf and split/fold seats, has carried lots of odd shaped loads and my bike fit in comfortably. Short 1st gear (typical of diesels), lots of grunt in 2nd/3rd, although the 2.0 seems to run out before the red line. Even if driven hard it is still pretty econmical with 45+ mpg and cruises effortlessly on long journeys. Handling has been compromised with the low profile wheels, makes it a skittish and you feel almost every tiny undulation on anything less than a mirror flat surface, neither does it improve in the rain, wheel spinning too easily when pulling away and can be a bit scary on wet roundabouts.Auto Stop/Start function takes a bit of getting use to and is really only useful if sat in traffic jams. Overall a superb car, great looking, practical and a car that you drive rather than one that drives you.
