Bought the car just over 3 yr ago from new, was a fantatic purchase worth every penny. I have driven to Spain and Poland with the car and it absolutely cruises, got over 45 mpg while on the continent however I live in east devon where mpg can drop to on average 25-30 but still i a great car. Only downsides to the 2dr coupe is i have a small family and space is limited with kid in car and luggage. boot is a good size but if i'd waited would have bought 5 dr sportbrake but would still recommend petrol engine to all as the pick up is great!!!!

The 3.0 litre A5 quattro is an excellent car if you're looking for a nippy, elegant ride with fantastic acceleration. The automatic is a seamless experience and it makes you wonder why manual drive is so commonplace. You can fit two people into the back, but it really is a car designed for two. Overall, I love it and would recommend it highly.

Bought it two months old in April with Audi special paint (racing blue) I've had so many people approach me commentig on the colour. It's only done 1900 miles so it's early days yet. My only long trip at the moment was from Stirling to Southend and back. It's got so much power (211ps) I had to keep my eyes on the speedo. I would have thought a car at that price would have cruise control.
Around the city I average 28mpg. Motorway 38mpg.
My only gripe is, theres no left foot rest!
Every time I look at it I smile.

I had heard a few negative reviews about this car before I bought it. However I'm glad I took the plunge and went ahead with my purchase. I have no complaints to date about this car whatsoever. It has been totally reliable and a pleasure to drive especially on the motorway. It's simply a stunning looking car and people are always staring at at. It's certainly for me the best looking coupe on the road at the moment.
Fuel economy is decent around town and very good on the motorway I get between 30mpg in town, to 45mpg on the motorway. This is fairly impressive for this size of car.
The only negative thing I would say (and this being a very small negative) is that it looks a lot faster than it is (1.8L petrol engine variant). It is still fairly quick though and totally adequate for me. I think if I was looking again I would certainly opt for a 2.0 litre model.
Space is fine for me and the passengers I've had in the back haven't complained about space in the rear (headroom/ legroom) etc, this includes people over 6 feet tall!
This review comes after only after 5 months of ownership so my thoughts may change, but as of now I felt compelled to give a review of this car, which I feel overall is excellent. I would definitely recommend this car!

Performance & handling are very good & good on fuel. motorway mpg 42, round streets 28. 0-60 5.9 secs which is blistering for a diesel car!
B&O sound system is amazing, sat nav only takes you to postcode area unless you type street in but doesnt take full post code.
over all i would recommend a5. very nice car.

Bought secondhand as a low mileage car and have found it to live up to my expectations. Delighted with the fuel economy which was a suprise for such a large sporty engine (240bhp) - can manage 50mpg on long fast runs and mid 30's to 40 in and around towns. Only downside is the cramped leg space for rear passengers - which does not effect me in particular afterall it is a drivers car. Can carry an amazing amount as I consider the boot and dropdown rear seats very accomodating. My experience to date covers over a year of ownership and 14k miles.
Would I buy another - probably yes.

AUDI A5 - a beautiful car but a poor automatic

The A5 is one of the most eye-catching cars on the road. In the V6 diesel format it has fantastic power and good economy - 40+mpg easily achieved. Practically, as a coupe it is quite spacious with 2 passengers and if they are prepared to compromise a little on space it is quite good with 4 as long as they are below 5'8". The driving position is very comfortable and view of the road clear. Six footers would leave any rear passengers with minimal leg room though. Carrying capacity in the boot is capacious with folding rears seats increasing the cars practicality. The engine is smooth and refined but the CVT gearbox - great above 10 mph but terrible when starting off and when parking. Be prepared for lots of damaged bumpers!! You have to apply the foot brake to engage drive but when you release it the engine revs another 200 + and it jumps forwards. God forbid you apply the accelerator while parking. I've raised this with Audi and they say "tough" - that's the way the software does things. Audi needs to wise up and sort the gearbox electronics. My wifes Citroen with similar semi-auto drive is a dream - and it costs £20k less!! Otherwise the gearbox once on the road is excellent - the CVT performs well and in sport mode the car moves very quickly and is a joy to drive on country roads. Overall I like the car a lot, it does what I want as I don't cart lots around with me - but I would really love it if Audi would sort the gearbox rather than fob me off with "it is what it is". If Citroen can get it right for £20k Audi should excel for near on £40k. Would I buy another? - almost certainly if Audi sorted the gearbox startup/low speed issues.

Fantastic car without the expense

I changed vehicles last year from a BMW M3 to this Audi A5 Quattro and I am so pleased with it. The boot space is huge, the seats are vey comfy and I have to say that despite BMW being an excellent car manufacturer, the Audi is of superior quality and feel. The performance between this car and my M3 is hardly noticeable unless you were using it on track but I get twice the MPG in the Audi, the tax is half price and the insurance is about 30% cheaper. The engine despite being diesel sounds wonderful with a nice purr to it. The cockpit is far more interesting and with the Bang and Olufson sound system...OMG. Everything about the car is excellent except that it is a 4 seater whereas my M3 was a 5 seater so remember this if you need 5 seats. The handling is exceptional with fantastic grip in all circumstances. Last winter in all the snow we had my neighbours had to leave their cars at the bottom of the hill whereas I could drive all the way up without issues thanks to the wonderful quattro system. Can fit two sets of golf clubs with accessories without a problem.

Have run this car from new for 3.5 years. The car is economical returning between 35-40mpg.Quality of construction & overall performance is at least equal to cars of double the price. Design still is eyecatching nearly four years on & I am struggling to find a replacement at present other than another one! The car has been trouble free other than a new electronic handbreak and keyless sensors all of which were replaced under warranty. The only negatives that I can find is the restricted head & leg room in the back for the average sized adult & no opening windows in the back. Load capacity is not too bad as the back seats fold independantly down & allow longer (but not particularly higher) items to be transported......I have moved two children back & forth from University numerous times & succesfully carried a 8 foot wrapped christmas tree.Service intervals are roughly every 18,000 miles & the fourwheel drive is absolutely superb....never want to go back to 2 wheel drive ever again!!Quite simply in over 30 years of driving this is the best car I have ever driven for the overall cost.
