• 1.6-litre, 180bhp turbocharged engine, 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds
• On sale in Spring 2013
• Chassis and suspension tuned at the Nurburgring
First details have been revealed of the new Ford Fiesta ST hot hatch. It is expected to go on sale in the Spring and will be priced from £16,995.
It is expected that the new car will look very similar to the concept which made its debut at last year’s Geneva Motor Show. It will get bigger alloy wheels, blistered wheelarches, more aggressive bumpers and a boot spoiler to give the car a more muscular look.
The new car will be powered by a 180bhp, turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine which will send its drive to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. This will be enough to launch the car to 60mph in 6.9 seconds.
Ford’s new ST has been developed at the infamous Nurburgring Nordschleife race track, which should make for hugely exciting driving dynamics. The new car’s powertrain has been developed in the UK, while the car will be built at Ford’s plant in Cologne, Germany.
The new Ford Fiesta ST will go on sale in the UK in April or May this year, with prices for the ST1 starting at £16,995 and for the ST2, £17,995. This should undercut the forthcoming Renaultsport Clio by between 1 and £2,000.
