• New compact hatch from SKODA
• Aimed at families
• In UK showrooms later this year.

This is the SKODA Rapid, a brand new model that has just been unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show.

The compact hatchback, which is being shown as a near-production concept car, will compete for sales in the UK’s competitive C segment market. It will go up against established rivals the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.

The Rapid will sit between the Fabia and Octavia in SKODA’s model line-up. A separate version, specific for the rapidly expanding Chinese market will also be built.

The car forms the spearhead of SKODA’s largest ever product offensive, with the marque planning to launch (on average) a new model every six months in the next few years.

The European version of the SKODA Rapid will be available in UK showrooms in late 2012.
