Vauxhall Zafira Tourer• A more stylish take on the new Zafira
• Takes on the Ford S-Max
• Expected to cost from £21,000

What is it?

A stylish and more upmarket brother to the Vauxhall Zafira MPV. Vauxhall says the Zafira Tourer is different from the Zafira in a similar way to how Ford differentiates the Galaxy and S-MAX.

What’s it like?

It has barely changed from the concept which wowed the crowds at the Geneva motor show earlier this year, meaning it’s one of the best looking cars in its class. At £21,000 in its most basic guise, it will undercut the cheapest Ford S-MAX by more than £1,200. All models will be well equipped, with air-con, digital radio, cruise control, six airbags and active headrests as standard.

What about the interior?

The Flex7 seating arrangement has evolved and Vauxhall claim even better levels flexibility and comfort. The interior not only looks nicer than the standard car, but is constructed from better materials.

Will it be sporty to drive?

Vauxhall says it will, with a longer wheelbase for a better ride, and the space between the wheels has been widened for added stability at speed. Two new engines – a 1.4 Turbo petrol and a 2-litre diesel, including a green ecoFLEX version – join a 1.8-litre petrol unit.

When does it go on sale?

The order books open November 1, with deliveries expected early next year.
