The 2011 BMW 6 Series Coupe will go on sale on October 15, with two petrol models and one diesel available.
With 316bhp the 640i SE is hardly entry-level – but its £59,565 starting price makes it the cheapest 6 Series Coupe. Fitted with a 3-litre, turbocharged six-cylinder engine it will hit 62mph from rest in 5.4 seconds. It’ll also average 36.7mpg and emits 179g/km of CO2.
The diesel model is the 6 Series Coupe 640d, which takes just 5.5 seconds to reach 62mph, but manages a claimed average fuel consumption of 51.4mpg, while emitting 144g/km of CO2. It will cost its owner just £130 in road tax annually. It’s priced at £62,080 in SE trim and £66,745 in M Sport specification.
Top-of-the-range is the 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 650i, with 407bhp and zero to 62mph in 4.9 seconds. It costs £67,340 for the SE or £71,840 for the M Sport and will be substantially more costly to run, averaging 26.6mpg and emitting 243g/km of CO2. This places it in tax band L, costing £445 per year.
The 6 Series Coupe will take on stiff competition, including the Mercedes E-Class Coupe, Jaguar XK and Audi A5 Coupe.
