The Lexus IS has undergone a thorough makeover, with a revised look and a new entry-level IS200d model for improved economy and emissions.

The new IS200d replaces the outgoing IS220d model and is powered by an improved 2.2-litre diesel engine with emission-reducing filters, mated to six-speed manual gearbox. It is capable of emitting 134 g/km of CO2 while returning an average 55.4mpg – equating to a 10 per cent improvement in emissions and a lower tax bills for company car users.

This efficiency comes at the price of performance and power has dropped from 175bhp to 148bhp, but the new version is still capable of hitting 0-60mph in 10.2 seconds (compared to 8.9 seconds).

The 2.5-litre petrol-engined IS250 now comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Power remains unchanged at 205bhp but its economy has been improved from 31.7 to 33.6mpg, while CO2 emissions have dropped from 209 to 194g/km.

Styling changes include new headlight and rear light designs, a revised front grille, new exterior colours and new design alloy wheels.

F-Sport models gain a new front spoiler, a new grille and a rear spoiler with integrated stop light. It now comes with an F-Sport steering wheel, gearlever and sports pedals, as well as front seats finished in leather and Alcantara.

SE-I models get rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and new leather upholstery.

The revised Lexus IS – which rivals the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4 – will make its public debut at next month’s Paris Motor Show. Prices remain unchanged and all versions are available now to order.
