Pictures of and prices for the new Vauxhall Astra Sport Tourer – estate to you and I – have just been revealed.

The cheapest model in the range will be the 1.7 CDTi ES, at £16,575, which is over £500 less than the model it replaces, despite its increased power and lower CO2 emissions.

The Astra Sport Tourer, which is built in Vauxhall’s UK plant in Ellesmere Port, will also be available with a 100bhp 1.4-litre petrol, a 1.6-litre with 115bhp and a 140bhp 1.4-litre turbo engine. 1.7- and 2.0-litre diesel engines will be available in 110, 125 and 160bhp versions. An ecoFLEX model with emissions of just 109g/km CO2 will join the range early next year.

Its looks have been brought in line with its bigger Insignia Sport Tourer sibling, with a greater emphasis on style than practicality. Its boot is therefore smaller than before at 500 litres with the rear seats up. This can be increased up to 1,550 litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded.

The Astra Sport Tourer will make its official public debut at the Paris motor show in October, with UK sales starting soon after.
