The Peugeot 308 range has been given a shot in the arm with the introduction of a hot new GT THP 200 version.

Using the 1.6-litre turbo engine from the recently introduced RCZ coupe, the GT THP 200 packs 200bhp, as the name suggests. This equates to 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 140mph.

Despite the strong performance, fuel economy is claimed to be 40.8mpg on the combined EU cycle, while CO2 emissions of 159g/km places it in VED tax band G, which costs £155 per year.

Its exterior has been given a subtle makeover, with black lower front bumper skirt and rear diffuser, a rear spoiler, twin chrome exhausts and a sporty front panel lifted from the 308 CC.

Inside, sports seats, aluminium pedals, a leather steering wheel and gloss black dash inserts complete the sporty look.

Its list price of £21,995 includes electric front and rear windows, climate control, cruise control, 18-inch wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, parking sensors, half leather trim and sports seats.

Peugeot is also offering a free Nokia 5230 smartphone with every car, including sat nav.
