BMW will launch M Sport versions of the new 5 Series saloon and estate in the UK in September.

The BMW 5 Series M Sport gets M Sports suspension, an M aerodynamics package and 18-inch M lightweight double-spoke alloy wheels.

On the inside it’s fitted with specially developed sports seats, an M leather-clad steering wheel, an M gear lever knob, anthracite black roof lining and M aluminium hexagon interior trim strips. Optional extras include 19-inch M light alloys as well as an M rear spoiler for the saloon.

BMW is also introducing a new ultra-powerful 3-litre straight-six all-aluminium diesel engine to the saloon range. The 535d produces 295bhp, 442lb/ft of torque, is capable of sprinting from 0-62mph in 5.7seconds and returning an impressive 46.3mpg. It is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 5-series Touring estate will also add one petrol and two new diesel engines to the line-up from September. As with the saloon, the estate gets the new 295bhp 3-litre engine which can hit 62mph in 5.7 seconds while averaging a combined fuel consumption of 44.8mpg and 165g/km of CO2.

The new petrol option – badged 528i – is a 255bhp 3-litre straight six-cylinder engine, which is capable of going from zero to 62mph in 6.9 seconds, while returning an average 35.3mpg and 188g/km of CO2.

BMW X1

BMW has also announced its range-topping X1 xDrive23d is now available with a six-speed manual gearbox, which helps its emissions to fall from 167g/km to 158g/km of CO2. Power output remains at 202bhp and 0-62mph stays at 7.3seconds.

BMW Z4

From September 2010, the BMW Z4 gets a new Design Pure Impulse equipment package. This includes black Alcantara/Nappa leather sports seats with yellow highlights, black Alcantara dash with a yellow contrast stitching and unique interior trim strips in a black piano high-gloss finish. The package costs from £540 to £2,200, depending on the model chosen.
