Dacia Duster heading to the UK
Thursday 29 April 2010
The Dacia Duster will be the first model from the Renault-owned Romanian manufacturer when UK sales start in 2012.
Despite the odd name (perhaps something was lost in translation?) the Duster may well become a regular sight on UK roads thanks to its mix of utilitarian practicality and good old value for money.
The Dacia Duster is similar in length and width to a Ford Focus but is taller and rides higher – think Skoda Yeti size. And like the Yeti, the Duster has been designed primarily as a practical family car, but with a rugged, off-road stance.
The Duster will be available with both two- and four-wheel drive and with either diesel or petrol engines. Thanks to its low weight and efficient, Renault-sourced diesel engine, the entry level dCi 85 4×2 version manages 55.4mpg combined and emits just 135g/km CO2.
A more powerful, dCi 110 engine is also available, as is a 102bhp, 1.6-litre petrol version.
Official prices have yet to be announced but are expected to start at under £11,000, which is cheaper than most current superminis.
