Mazda’s new ‘family face’
A facelifted Mazda 6 will be unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show in March.
The new Mazda 6 gets improved refinement, increased fuel efficiency across the range and adopts what Mazda describes as the new “family face”, which debuted on the latest-generation Mazda 5.
The redesign also includes new headlamps and rear lights to create a “sporty appearance and a clearer, premium identity”.
The new version will be powered by a choice of six engines. This includes a powerful 2-litre DISI petrol engine that is more fuel-efficient and produces fewer emissions than the outgoing 2-litre engine it replaces.
Updated versions of the current 1.8 and 2.5-litre engines complete the petrol line-up.
Diesel options are provided by Mazda’s MZR-CD 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine in three power derivatives – from 127 to 178bhp – all with improved fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
Mazda has also re-tuned the chassis settings and added several new safety features, such as pivoting headlamps and hill-launch assist.
The new-look Mazda 6 will be one of three models making their debuts at Geneva in six week’s time, along with the new Mazda 5 and a 20th anniversary special edition version of the MX-5.
The new Mazda 6 will go on sale in the Spring. If you can’t wait until then, there are currently more than 1,300 used Mazda 6s for sale on Auto Trader.
