New-look 6 for 2010
An all-new Mazda 5 is to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March.
Replacing the current seven-seater MPV, the new model features Mazda’s ‘Nagare Flow’ design language, which has made the Mazda 6 family car and Focus-rivalling Mazda 3 so distinctive.
There will be two petrol engines offered at launch, a 1.8-litre unit and an all-new 2-litre engine. Both are four-cylinder units, which will come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.
As with the current model, the rear doors on the 5 will slide for easier access to a cabin which Mazda claims will offer both space and flexibility.
Mazda hasn’t released many details of the new 5 yet, and no information on which diesel engines will be fitted. However, it is likely that the Mazda 6’s excellent 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine will be offered.
The new Mazda 5 will be one of three cars making their debuts at the 2010 Geneva motor show. The other two are a facelifted Mazda 6 and a 20th Anniversary special edition version of the iconic Mazda MX-5, which is now in its third generation.
