Full details and pricing

Volvo has announced prices for the all-new V70 estate and the S80 saloon 2-litre engine derivatives.

The 2-litre petrol S80 will start at £23,495 on the road, while the new V70 with the same engine has a base price of £24,995.

The new petrol powerplant develops 145bhp and returns a claimed 32.8mpg in the V70 and 34mpg in the S80.

And Volvo’s new 2-litre diesel engine produces a similar power figure – 136bhp – but returns more fuel per gallon.

Volvo claims that in the new V70, the diesel will provide 47.9mpg and emit just 157g/km of carbon, while the S80’s stats stand at 49.6mpg and a slightly lower emissions output of 152g/km of carbon.

The Swedish carmaker is hopeful for the new powerplants – Volvo expects the new petrol and diesel variants to account for up to 60 per cent of all new V70 and S80 sales.

And company motorists will benefit – the four-cylinder engines will “enable drivers to get into a more spacious car without the burden of inflated Benefit in Kind tax bills or high fuel costs”, according to Volvo.

Nick Connor, Volvo UK Sales Director said: “We have been working with Volvo in Sweden to develop 2-litre engines for the V70 and S80 as they are such an important benchmark for company car choice lists in the UK.”

The marque has been investigating the market for diesels in particular.

“We know from industry data that 2-litre diesel engines in particular account for 60 to 80 per cent of some rival manufacturers’ executive car sales”, Nick said.

Both variants are available to order now ready for January delivery.
