Dutch supercar builder Spyker has taken the wraps off a prototype of its latest model at the Pebble Beach show in California.

The motor fitted in the C8 Aileron Spyder is the same 4.2-litre V8 found in the Audi R8 supercar and RS4 uber-saloon.

Spyker says it accelerates from 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 187mph – similar performance to the Porsche 911 Carrera S 3.8.

In the Spyker it produces 400bhp and will be available with a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox, the latter getting paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

To bring it back to a halt, the brakes are supplied by British company AP Racing.

The Aileron has a lightweight all-aluminium body structure, and it’s built by hand.

The chassis has been completely redesigned and is now stiffer and has a suspension system designed and built by Lotus.

A semi-automatic folding soft-top retracts under an aluminium tonneau cover, to keep the lines of the car as clean as possible.

Heavily inspired by Spyker’s aviation heritage, the interior can be fitted with a turned aluminium dashboard and quilted leather seats, and a matching Louis Vuitton luggage set is available.

The Bentley Mulsanne saloon and Bugatti Veyron Sang Bleu also made their debut at the Pebble Beach show this week.
