Euro NCAP has released its latest results for twelve of the most desirable new cars on the market, with some unexpected results.

Five stars

The Volkswagen Scirocco coupe, BMW X1 SUV, Chevrolet Cruze saloon, Citroen DS3 supermini, Infiniti FX SUV, Mazda 3 hatchback, Mercedes E-Class saloon, Vauxhall Astra hatchback, Peugeot 5008 MPV and Mercedes GLK SUV (not sold in the UK) all received five-stars for adult occupant protection.

Four stars

The Chevrolet Spark city car is not on sale in the UK yet, but when it arrives its sales will be backed up with a respectable four-star Euro NCAP rating.

Three stars

With three Euro NCAP stars for adult occupant protection, the Toyota Urban Cruiser fared worst in the tests which include a frontal impact, side impact, pole impact, child protection, whiplash and safety aids test.

This follows five-star results for the last three Toyota’s tested – the Toyota IQ, Toyota Avensis and Toyota Prius.
