Peugeot will unveil an all-new performance hybrid concept known initially as the RC at October’s Paris Motor Show.

The Peugeot ‘RC…’ – whose full name will be revealed at the show – will be a GT coupe which the French car maker says will be a four-door, four-seat coupe with ‘highly innovative hybrid architecture’.

While initial sketches aren’t too clear, the RC concept has a side profile similar to the Audi R8 while the front appears to have large air intakes similar to those seen on the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560.

It will boast a claimed 313bhp, making it considerably more powerful than any current Peugeot in production, while combined emissions of 109g/km will also make it one of the greenest of the French company’s cars.

When the RC will be operating at low speeds through urban areas it will be using the electric motor only, meaning zero carbon emissions – the same as the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid.

But while the Civic and Prius are green at low speeds, they only develop around 115bhp – 200bhp less than the performance-orientated Peugeot.

According to Peugeot, the RC is ‘an exciting, eco-efficient vehicle which has all the characteristics that also ensures great driving enjoyment; a synthesis of ideas which demonstrates that respect for the environment and driving pleasure can be compatible.’

It’s unclear at the moment whether or not the RC will make production but the technology involved may give an indication as to the future of Peugeot’s cars.

At the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Audi TT and VW Scirocco-rivalling RCZ concept made its debut – and that model will go on sale in 2010.

The Peugeot RC will make its world debut at October’s Paris Motor Show with more official details to be released at a later date.

We’ll be reporting live from Paris so don’t forget to come back for all the news and developments as they happen.
