With tax, insurance and petrol prices at a new high, some drivers are looking for new ways to offset the cost.

Selling advertising space on your car could earn you up to £1,500 per year.

What is it?

A new scheme has been setup which allows drivers to place advertising on their car in exchange for a monthly fee.

Motorists who drive their car 500 miles per month and are happy to cake it in company logos can receive a cash bonus.

How does it work?

You can specify which part of your car you’d like the advert to appear on, and a pre-printed graphic coating is applied over your car’s paintwork.

A special type of film is used for adverts which cover the entire car – including windows – but they don’t restrict vision as they’re transparent from the inside.

It takes a day to apply the coating, which protects your car’s paintwork from stone chips, scratches, corrosions and fading from the sun’s glare.

Not everyone’s preference can be guaranteed, so they might be suggested a different advert size or type for their car.

The driver also has the right to refuse any advertising campaign before it starts.

How much can I earn?

The amount you receive depends on how much advertising space you allow:

• Side panel (1,600mm by 600mm) – £240 per year
• Rear windscreen – £300 per year
• Rear windscreen and back windows – £600 per year
• Doors and back windows – £900 per year
• Complete bodywork – £1,500 per year

You can request to exclude ads you don’t like, and the advert will run for either three months, six months or a full year.

What are the requirements?

To apply you must:

• Be the primary driver of the vehicle
• Hold a clean UK driving licence
• Have a road legal car with tax, insurance and an MOT certificate
• Hold no driving convictions
• Travel at least 500 miles per month
• Keep you car clean and undamaged, with advertising kept clear

Damage to paintwork is covered if the paint is in factory condition (without any re-sprays or corrosion). Auto Trader recommends you inform your insurer if you make any changes to your bodywork.
