Vijay Pattni rounds up every single car of the 2009 Motorexpo – London’s free motor show.

There’s nothing better than a truckload of supercars to lighten the economic gloom.

Forget Captain Credit Crunch, forget ‘quantitative easing’ and definitely forget sub-prime lending – because sitting in the centre of London right now is a £175,000 Aston Martin DBS Volante.

Put simply – it is ridiculously sexy.

The 2009 London Motorexpo got off to a flying start as Canary Wharf’s depression-set financial district hosts the UK’s largest free-to-view automotive show.

And Aston Martin sits at the top of the tree with the UK show debuts of its fantastic DBS Volante and V12 Vantage.

Sure, in the pictures and on screen (last year’s Quantum of Solace), the DBS is a fantastic machine.

But in the flesh, this new DBS Volante brings drama on another scale – swathes of people swarmed around the beautiful drop-top to soak up its glorious lines.

It hogged the limelight so much its little brother – the 510bhp Aston Martin V12 Vantage – was left red in the face. But that’s probably because it was painted red. Cherry red.

Outside on the lawn facing the famous One Canada Square, BMW had decamped and brought along the entire family for a big day out. From the 135i M Sport coupe to the 400bhp BMW M3, there was a Beemer for everyone.

But just in case there wasn’t, the Munich manufacturer brought along its newest progeny – a car it feels ticks as many boxes as possible (and was designed using one).

Everyone’s favourite niche-destroying company has rolled out the new 5 Series GT for the first time in the UK.

While initial reception to the crazy crossover was warm – we heard some positive punters who seemed genuinely interested – you can’t help but notice that it’s not, well, pretty.

Mixing the interior legroom of the 7 Series, driving dynamics to match the 5 and the high driving position of the X5, BMW has created a hot-potch motor designed to be everything to every person.

Canary Wharf also played host to the UK debuts of the fire-breathing 503bhp Jaguar XF-R and the beautiful 5-litre supercharged V8-powered Jaguar XK-R.

If you can’t make it to London’s financial district to view the hot metal fear not – we’ve got every car at the 2009 London Motorexpo pictured, so you can view the stunning show from the comfort of your armchair.
