Hardcore Nissan GT-R SpecV revealed
08 January 2009
After months of rumours, official details of the track-focussed Nissan GT-R Spec V have been announced.
While built with the intention of providing petrolheads with a new track toy, the Nissan GT-R Spec V is road-legal with weight loss the key to the car’s improved performance.
Out go the rear seats while the spoiler, grille and brake ducts are now made from carbon fibre.
The Nissan GT-R SpecV retains its hand-built 480bhp 3.8-litre engine, but benefits from a new high gear boost control which momentarily increases the boost on the twin-turbocharger for greater pulling power.
Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and – for the first time on a Nissan – carbon ceramic brakes for improved stopping power.
On top of this, the SpecV gets new wheels, new suspension and higher grip tyres to improve the outstanding handling of the GT-R.
In normal guise, the Nissan GT-R is already an amazing track car, lapping the Nürburgring quicker than the Bugatti Veyron and Porsche 911 Turbo – despite costing significantly less.
With the SpecV’s modifications, it won’t be long before Nissan takes the new GT-R to the ‘Ring just to see how capable it is.
As yet, Nissan has only confirmed the GT-R SpecV will be going on sale in Japan for 15.75m Yen or £113,000 – more than twice the standard GT-R’s £56,795 price-tag.
But with the demand for the standard model, it’s highly likely the SpecV will be coming to the UK sometime next year.
