The one millionth new-style Mini has rolled off its production line in Oxford.

The landmark Mini – a Cooper S - is a one-off model for BMW Group's heritage division, Mobile Tradition. It is painted Pepper White with a special Almond Green paint for the roof and a ‘million’ graphic on the bonnet

More than 7,800 of the cheeky superminis were sold last month, beating the March 2006 record of 7,687 – a rare success story in the beleaguered British car industry.

The plant in Oxford operates around the clock and employs 4,700 workers – almost twice the number there when it opened in 2001. It can produce 200,000 Minis per year.

Plant Oxford is supported by two other British sites - Hams Hall, near Birmingham, which builds petrol engines, and Swindon which supplies other major components.

Altogether, 6,800 UK workers are involved in producing the cars.
