Car makers offer bigger scrappage discounts
Car makers have backed the £2,000 scrappage scheme for British buyers – and some are offering more discounts to boost new car sales.
The scheme – confirmed in the 2009 Budget – offers buyers the chance to scrap their vehicle and receive £2,000 towards a new car or van.
So far 45 manufacturers have promised to provide £1,000 per scrapped car, with the government paying the remaining £1,000.
Some have introduced further reductions including £5,000 off a Ford Galaxy and £3,260 off a BMW 1 Series.
The scheme began on May 18, 2009 and will run until March 31, 2010 – or when 300,000 buyers have scrapped their cars.
