When footballers modify

When footballers modify - News image

Being a professional footballer is a pretty sweet gig if you ask us.

You get paid for kicking a ball around for more than 90 minutes two or three times a week, and – if you’re lucky and not totally devoid of talent – get the chance to represent your country. And then you buy an Audi R8.

Take Manchester City player Stephen Ireland – he signed for the Blues when he was just 15 years old, and now at 23, is still with the club which recently lost the country’s most expensive player in the shape of Brazilian talisman Robinho.

Thanks to Man City’s very deep pockets, Stephen Ireland earns a reported £70,000 per week – more than enough to finance his £5 million Cheshire mansion next door to Manchester United rivals Wayne Rooney and Wes Brown.

Oh, and it’s also more than enough to finance his fleet of luxury modified cars.

First, we reported on his modified Audi R8; a car which he had originally decked out in red detailing on the grille, cooling vents and side panels. Being a Blues player however, he got a lot of stick, so had the colours changed to, well, blue of course.

Then there’s his £90,000 Range Rover finished with a rather fetching pink grille, pink alloy wheels and pink leather interior.

And last but by no means least, is girlfriend Jessica Lawlor’s modified Bentley Continental GTC.

Bought by Stephen for Jess’s 24th birthday, the £260,000 modified white Bentley Continental GTC has been fitted with a white bodykit which has a red line running along the wing, along with huge red and black deep-dish alloy wheels.

The famous Bentley ‘B’ badge has also been replaced by Jess’s initials – JL. Classy.

Think that’s the craziest modified footballer car? Judge for yourself by clicking on our gallery, including Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard’s Overfinch modified Range Rover, which we’ve had for sale on the site.

Vijay Pattni.

Video: Reckon football's elite will want one of these? We think very much yes.
