Volkswagen Scirocco gets 350bhp
12 February 2009
This is the Sportec SC 350 – the most extreme version of the Volkswagen Scirocco.
Swiss tuner Sportec, which specialises in modifying German cars, has turned its hand to the brilliant Scirocco 2.0TSI – and increased power from 200bhp to 350bhp.
While performance figures haven’t been quoted, this power increase should enable the Sportec SC 350 to accelerate from 0-62mph in about 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed near the 170mph mark.
This is up from the standard Scirocco need-to-know numbers of 7.2 seconds and 146mph.
The power increase has been achieved by adjusting the Scirocco’s engine management computer, modifying the fuel system and fitting a new Sportec turbocharger and intercooler.
For improved handling, the Sportec SC 350 gets new suspension springs which lower the car by 35mm over the standard Scirocco, while a limited slip differential should ensure greater grip and minimal understeer through the corners.
A set of 20-inch black alloy wheels add to the car’s imposing exterior while inside, the SC 350 gets carbon detailing with Sportec logos splashed all around.
The Volkswagen Scirocco made its debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show and was Auto Trader’s star car at the event.
It has become a tuners’ favourite with after-market modifiers such as Abt and Oettinger both getting their hands on the ‘Rocco.
And VW recently displayed the Scirocco Studie R at the Bologne Motor Show, giving a clear indication to what the flagship R20 T will look like if it goes on sale later this year as expected.
Sportec has a stand at this year’s Geneva Motor Show but it’s unknown whether the SC 350 will be on display.
However, it’s likely the Swiss car maker will be showing off its SPR1 hypercar.
Based on a Porsche 911 Turbo but with power upped to 800bhp, the SPR1 will rocket to 62mph in 3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 235mph.
We’ll be reporting live from Geneva so don’t forget to come back for all the news as it happens.
