The stunning Peugeot 308 RC Z concept has been officially confirmed for production and will go on sale in 2010.

Peugeot confirmed the gorgeous Peugeot 308 RC Z final production model will be showcased at next year’s Frankfurt motor show, ready for production in 2010 earlier today.

And the French carmaker has said the final spec of the Peugeot 308 RC Z will be based on the “key features” of the concept car.

Auto Trader spoke to Peugeot last year when a company spokesperson said: “If the green light was switched on for the 308 RC Z coupe concept we would expect it to appear some time between early to mid 2009.”

The sexy 308 RC Z stole the limelight at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show, featuring futuristic Audi TT styling.

And Peugeot bosses reckon this new 308 RC Z coupe “demonstrates [our] willingness to break away from the traditional look of our coupes – a key part of image building.”

The Peugeot 308 RC Z concept features a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine from the 207 GTi and a six-speed gearbox, shooting the sexy Pug from 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 146mph.

But despite the Pug’s power, the 1.6-litre engine can still manage 42.2mpg while emitting 160g/km of carbon dioxide – putting it into tax band D with an annual bill of £145.

The front of the 308 RC Z is dominated by a huge pair of headlights and Peugeot’s distinctive gaping mouth grille.

And the concept coupe certainly looks every inch the sportscar with massive 19-inch alloy wheels and a centrally mounted twin exhaust pipe at the rear.

Peugeot said: “The RC Z has provoked great enthusiasm and has aroused keen interest from the general public. Today, the dream becomes a reality.”

Prices have not been announced for the Peugeot 308 RC Z, but check back with Auto Trader for more updates on the sexy new coupe.
