X-Factor judge Simon Cowell has beaten the likes of Jay Kay and 50 Cent to be named worst polluting celebrity motorist.

Simon Cowell, who is also a judge on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, owns a Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari F430 and Rolls-Royce Phantom.

With the Bugatti Veyron emitting 574g/km of carbon dioxide, Cowell’s average emissions are a staggering 457g/km.

Jamiroquai frontman and Ferrari fanatic Jay Kay is second in the research compiled by the City Car Club, emitting 444g/km thanks to his Ferrari Enzo and Bentley Continental.

Third place goes to David Beckham, whose Bentley Arnage and Lamborghini Gallardo help contribute to his overall average off 421g/km.

Other stars to make up the top ten include Mr Bean star Rowan Atkinson (398g/km), rap star 50 Cent (394g/km) and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard (287g/km).

While Simon Cowell will enjoy being chauffeured around in his Rolls-Royce Phantom, he’s got the driving talent to handle the 1,001bhp Bugatti Veyron.

He is currently at the top of the leader board as Top Gear’s Star in a Reasonably Priced car, lapping the show’s track in 1 minute 49 seconds – ahead of Jennifer Saunders and Gordon Ramsay.

City Car Club gives members access to locally parked cars to rent for £5-per-hour and has a host of hybrids among its fleet.

They claim the hybrids cut carbon dioxide emissions by 2,000 tons per year – equivalent to 530 flights to Australian.

City Car Club’s James Finlayson said: “Just because these people are rich and famous doesn’t mean they can’t do their bit for the environment.”
