Mercedes SLS 'Gullwing' pics leaked
The first official pictures of the 21st Century Mercedes Gullwing have been leaked on the Internet.
Its unique lifting doors are shown off to their full, and many of its design cues clearly ape the original model.
A long bonnet and small Xenon headlights lead into a characteristic oval front grille with a single horizontal bar and large Mercedes roundel.
The SLS AMG will replace the McLaren SLR as the company’s flagship model and get a 6.3-litre V8 engine producing 571bhp.
Acceleration from 0-62mph is expected to take 3.8 seconds, with top speed rumoured to be 196mph.
With a body constructed of aluminium its weight is just 1,620kgs, with 48:52 weight distribution.
When the Mercedes 300SL was introduced in the 1950s it became an icon thanks to its ‘gullwing’ doors and huge performance.
Its 215bhp six-cylinder engine might seem meagre now, but its 161mph top speed made it the world’s first supercar.
In 2007 a 300SL belonging to F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone was auctioned for £240,000.
