The Land Rover Freelander HST gets 19-inch alloy wheels

by Adrian Hearn

Land Rover has sported up its Freelander with an aggressive-looking, range-topping HST model.

The Land Rover Freelander HST gets a butch-looking sports styling pack with front and rear bumpers, side sill mouldings, a rear roof spoiler and huge 19-inch alloys.

Inside, the only difference are leather seat facings and tinted privacy glass.

As with the standard Freelander, buyers will have a choice of two engines - a 2.2-litre diesel producing 158bhp and 295lb/ft of pulling power and a 3.2-litre petrol chucking out 230bhp and 234lb/ft.

Performance remains unchanged with the diesel accelerating from 0-60mph in 10.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 112mph, while managing 37.2mpg.

The petrol Freelander hits 60mph in 8.4 seconds before maxing out at 124mph and averaging 25.2mpg.

Safety features on the Land Rover Freelander HST include four airbags, traction control, anti-lock brakes and hill decent and roll stability control for taking the baby Land Rover off-road. In the EuroNCAP crash test programme, the Freelander was awarded a full five star rating.

The Land Rover Freelander will follow the Range Rover Sport in getting a HST trim spec.

The Range Rover Sport HST – which is on sale now – features 20-inch alloys, a bodykit and leather seats with prices starting from £59,895.

Last month we featured Steven Gerrard’s Range Rover Sport HST which was for sale on Auto Trader. A keen Liverpool and England fan snapped it up within an hour of it appearing on the website.

On sale in March, prices for the Land Rover Freelander HST start from £31,990 for the 2.2-litre diesel model, rising to £35,125 for the top-end 3.2-litre petrol.
