James Bond’s Aston Martin DBS plunged into the water while being driven to the set of the latest 007 film.

Producers of Quantum of Solace, which stars Daniel Craig, said the Aston Martin DBS was being delivered to the set yesterday when the vehicle veered off the lakeside road.

The British supercar had to be fished out of Lake Garda in Northern Italy by a huge crane and support team after the incident which happened in heavy rain.

Italian TV has shown footage of the smashed Aston Martin DBS being hoisted out of the water.

Producers said the driver of the Aston Martin DBS – which also appeared in Casino Royale – was taken to a hospital miraculously with just minor injuries.

While making its screen debut in the 2006 film Casino Royale, official details of the Aston Martin DBS weren’t revealed until August 2007.

Powered by a 6-litre V12 engine, the Aston Martin produces 510bhp – giving it a top speed of almost 191mph.

Just 500 models will be made each year with buyers having to wait almost 18 months to get their hands on the £160,000 supercar.

In Casino Royale, Ford Motor Company had a deal with the studio to provide cars for the film with Bond famously appearing in the then future Ford Mondeo.

At the time, Ford also owned Aston Martin, Land Rover and Jaguar, but has since sold these companies.

But it’s rumoured the all-new Ford Ka will make a cameo appearance with Bond jumping out of the moving vehicle.

Lake Garda, which is located between Venice and Milan, is the largest lake in Italy with depths registered at more than 340 metres.

Quantum of Solace is the 22nd film in the long-running franchise and will be released later this year.
