Gold Porsche 911: stolen in Russia?
22 April 2009
A gold Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet (first revealed here last year) has been stolen after being taken for a test drive.
A police source told a Russian news agency the owner of the golden Porsche met up with a potential buyer who took the supercar for a spin round a car park before disappearing in an unknown direction.
The owner then waited for 20 minutes before calling the police.
But the whole story is now shrouded in mystery with the local government refuting claims the car was stolen.
A spokesperson said: “News about this theft is false. Firstly, there were no Porsche thefts today.
“Secondly, the owner of that car did call police, but he said that he had had a small conflict with a customer concerning the valuation of the car.
“The police did not get involved in the conflict.
“Finally, the value of the car amounts to 3 million rubles (£62,000) because the car is just painted with golden coloured paint. ”
It was initially thought the owner had spent £270,000 garnishing the German supercar in gold but regardless of price, if the Porsche has been stolen it’s not exactly inconspicuous.
