The Maserati Quattroporte will now be offered with a range-topping 4.7-litre V8 engine.

The 2008 Maserati Quattroporte S sports saloon gets the same engine as the Maserati GranTurismo S coupe – meaning 430bhp and 361lb/ft of pulling power – taking it closer to the 507bhp BMW M5.

No official performance figures have been released for the 2008 Maserati Quattroporte, but the Maserati GranTurismo S coupe – which is a rival for the Aston Martin V8 Vantage – sprints from 0-62mph in just 4.9 seconds.

With the Maserati Quattroporte’s extra 100kg weight, we’d expect the saloon to complete the 0-62mph sprint in just over five seconds.

This range-topping 4.7-litre V8 engine is used in a higher state of tune in the ultra-exclusive Alfa Romeo 8C supercar.

Maserati has refreshed the Quattroporte sports saloon with a new front grille featuring vertical slats which are “reminiscent of the GranTurismo”, and updated front and rear light units featuring LED bulbs.

Maserati has reshaped the side door mouldings and the door mirrors to freshen up the sports saloon.

The Italian super-saloon also comes with a new interior centre console with controls grouped together for convenience, and the Quattroporte’s range of navigation systems is also fully updated, with the new Maserati Multimedia System.

The Quattroporte will be offered up with two new shades of leather – Marrone Corniola (brown) and Sabbia (sand), which replaces the beige leather used on the previous Maserati.

The stunning new Maserati Quattroporte and Maserati Quattroporte S will go on sale in the UK in October, with prices expected to start from £79,000 for the standard Quattroporte, and £85,000 for the 4.7-litre Quattroporte S.
