Citroen DS3 Mini rival on sale now
15 February 2010
Prices for the upmarket DS3 supermini start at £11,700 for the 1.4 16v ‘Dsign’ model. That makes it cheaper than both the Mito and A1, but the entry-level Mini First undercuts them all by nearly £500.
However the price in the window only tells part of the story. The DS3 is better equipped than its rivals, with six airbags, front fog lamps, cruise control, sport suspension, MP3 player, electric windows and 16-inch wheels as standard.
Things get really interesting when you start dipping into the options list, though. As well as the usual extras such as air conditioning, bigger wheels and leather seats, you can also specify a perfume-dispensing air freshener, four styles of roof graphic and nearly 40 different colour combinations. The chances of your DS3 being the same as your neighbour’s are slim.
The engine range includes three petrol engines – 1.4, 1.6 and a 1.6 turbo – and three versions of the 1.6 HDi diesel. The 90bhp 1.6 HDi is the cleanest and most frugal with average fuel consumption of 74.3mpg and CO2 emissions of just 99g/km. Meanwhile the 1.6 turbo is the fastest until the rumoured DS3-R arrives, with 0-62mph taking just 7.3 seconds.
