The images show the drenched Veyron stained and stuffed with significant signs of damage in and around the cockpit.

The waterlogged Bugatti, which retails at around £1 million and is one of the world’s fastest and most exclusive hypercars, reportedly ‘gurgled like an outboard motor for 15 minutes before it died’, according to the Galveston Daily News.

It careered into a lagoon near Omega Bay in Texas after the driver was reportedly distracted by a low-flying pelican.

And it’s not the first time a Veyron has been snapped in trouble. Two years ago we brought you pictures of one of the first ever reported crashes of the 1,001bhp hypercar.

Logistics manager Ajay Soni lost control of a red and black Bugatti Veyron in 2007 and collided with a Vauxhall Astra, causing catastrophic damage.

While Soni was fined £400 and got nine points on his licence for the accident, it later emerged his brother Kumar took delivery of the Veyron just eight days before the crash.

And 2009 has been a black year for supercar smashes, including the McLaren F1 and Ferrari Enzo which were destroyed by fire, along with a host of other Lambos involved in eye-watering crashes.
