Here are the first sneak pictures of Volvo’s hot new XC60 concept, which won’t be officially unveiled until next month’s Detroit Motor Show.

Initial details are sketchy, but the XC60 – which sports 20-inch wheels -  is expected to target the BMW X3 in the fast-growing sports SUV market.

The XC60 boasts a hi-tech braking system, which automatically pre-charges the brakes if it senses a collision, but if it senses an imminent smash, it will brake automatically at speeds of up to 20mph.

Expect prices to start from about £22,000 for the motor, which will be on our roads in 2009.
