Diesel power for Volvo C70 convertible
02 June 2006 Priced from £29,420 in Sport trim, the D5 is £3195 more than the 170bhp 2.4-litre petrol, but comes fitted with the Geartronic automatic transmission, which is a £1250 option on the petrol car. Six-speed manual versions of the diesel C70 will only join the range in mid-2007. Performance from the D5 outstrips the petrol in every respect. From 0-60mph, the diesel is 0.3 seconds quicker at 8.8secs, while top speed is 3mph faster at 140mph. Combined fuel consumption improves from 31.4mpg to 38.7mpg, while lower emissions means it's cheaper to run as a company car, despite its higher price tag. A higher-rate earner will pay £243 a month for the diesel, compared with £290 for the petrol. We're driving the diesel C70 for the first time early next Monday, so come back to whatcar.com next week to see what we think of the car. |
