Volvo V50 gets 180bhp diesel
01 December 2005 The 2.4-litre engine offers 44bhp more power than the existing 2.0-litre diesel, the most popular powerplant in the V50 so far. Initially it will only be available with the five-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, but a manual version will follow in 2007. Early performance tests show that the engine can power the V50 from 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds, 0.8sec faster than the 2.0-litre engine, which is only available with a manual gearbox. Other performance figures will be announced in spring 2006. Official pricing will also have to wait until then, but expect it to have a starting price of at least £22,000, significantly more than the 2.0-litre diesel. ? Volvo's D5 engine will also be available in the new C70 convertible by the middle of next year. The tin-top convertible initially goes on sale in the spring with a 170bhp or 220bhp petrol engine. |
