Only months after the Volkswagen Scirocco went on sale, Oettinger is offering the first tuning kit.

Featuring huge wheels of up to 20-inches in diameter and a more aggressive front bumper, side sills and rear bumper the Oettinger Scirocco takes on a harder character.

Under the bonnet the 1.4-litre petrol engine can be tuned to 198bhp and the 2-litre petrol to 237bhp.

Still under development is a power-boosting kit which sees power of the 2-litre soar to 345bhp and 347lb/ft of pulling power.

Abt Scirocco

German tuning company Abt has also released its take on the Scirocco, with a body kit featuring a rear diffuser inspired by motorsport.

Its four exhausts are stacked diagonally, two at each side, in a style similar to the Ferrari California.

Power increases compete with the Oettinger Sciroco, and Abt also offer tuning of the 2-litre diesel engine with an increase in power from 138bhp to 168bhp.

Available from January 2009, the Abt package with body kit, exhaust, lowered suspension and 19-inch alloy wheels with tyres will cost £4,630 in Germany.
The Volkswagen Scirocco is now available with two economical engines and a smaller price tag.

At its launch in September the Volkswagen Scirocco was available exclusively in range-topping ‘GT’ trim with a 198bhp 2-litre petrol engine.

Now it’s here with an advanced 1.4-litre petrol engine and the Volkswagen Scirocco gets its first diesel – a common rail 2-litre TDI.

The 1.4-litre has an impressive 158bhp which accelerates it from 0-62mph in 8 seconds.

It achieves 42.8mpg on the combined cycle and emits 154g/km, placing it in tax band D with an annual charge of £145.

It’s available in ‘basic’ trim from £18,790 and features include six-CD autochanger, rain and light sensors, trip computer, air conditioning, 17-inch alloy wheels and six airbags.

Buyers of the 2-litre diesel are can expect an average fuel consumption of 55.4mpg in models with the manual gearbox, and 51.4mpg in the DSG semi-automatic gearbox equipped diesel Scirocco.

The 138bhp engine emits 134g/km (145g/km with DSG) placing it in tax band C with an annual cost of £120.

It’s available in both entry-level ‘basic’ and range-topping ‘GT’ trim with starting prices of £19,515 and £20,440 respectively.

All models are available with the DSG gearbox for a £1,330 premium.

The Volkswagen Scirocco benefits from ‘Adaptive Chassis Control’ (ACC), a system first seen in supercars including the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano using advanced suspension which can adjust almost instantly.
