An ultra-efficient Vauxhall Astra Ecoflex will go on sale in April.

With CO2 emissions of 109g/km and average fuel economy of 67.3mpg, the new Vauxhall Astra Ecoflex provides a 12 per cent improvement over the previously most efficient version, the 1.7 CDTi.

This means that the new addition to the range will qualify for £35 car tax and 13 per cent benefit in kind tax liability for company car drivers.

The new model is powered by an economical 1.3 CDTi 94bhp diesel engine – as seen in the revised Corsa – and mated to a five-speed transmission. A gear change-up light is fitted as standard, to help drivers choose the most efficient gear.

The version also benefits from a wealth of aerodynamic improvements, including an active aero shutter, which closes automatically at higher speeds to smooth airflow at the front of the car.

The Vauxhall Astra Ecoflex will be available in four trim levels – S, Exclusiv, SE and, for the first time in a five-door Ecoflex model, sportier SRi.

Prices start at £17,920 and rise to £20,320, which is an average premium of more than £1,500 compared to the 1.4-litre version.

There are more than 13,000 used Vauxhall Astras for sale on Auto Trader.
