Vauxhall's bid to bin bangers
|
07 June 2007 To qualify for the scheme, which Vauxhall claims will remove 'bangers emitting choking fumes into the atmosphere', the old car must be scrapped. Vauxhall says improvements in engine technology between a 10-year-old car and a modern car could save around 800kg of carbon dioxide over 12,000 miles of driving. Its most fuel-efficient models which qualify for the scheme are the 1.0 petrol, 1.3 petrol and 74bhp 1.3 diesel Corsa; 1.4 petrol and 1.3 diesel Meriva; 1.4 petrol and 1.3 diesel Astra and 1.6 petrol and 118bhp 1.9 diesel Zafira. If you don't want your car scrapped, you can still qualify for an additional £250 discount if you trade in your current car for a low-emission Vauxhall. The schemes are in addition to current free finance and insurance incentives. |
